ARE YOU READY TO BECOME A CERTIFIED CARDIAC VASCULAR NURSE?
What is the certification?– The Cardiac/Vascular Nurse Certification is a nationally recognized certification through ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center). Certification demonstrates to others that you are a clinical expert in the management of patients and those at risk for cardiovascular events.
Am I eligible? - See criteria under the “General Information” tab.
How do I apply? - The application is available as a downloadable document. (Exam Application) There is also an online version of the application.
How is the test administered? - It is administered through ANCC after you have applied. It is a computer based test. You can take the test at a location near you. You have a 90 day window to take the test once you are notified.
What is the content of the test? - Content is outlined under the “General Information” tab. There are 175 questions on the test. It is a combination of cardiac and vascular topics. There is a detailed outline of specific topics on the ANCC website.
How do I prepare for the test?
- Purchase the SVN Core Curriculum in Vascular Nursing. Download the order form. Cost: SVN Member $95.00, Non-member $145.00
- Purchase the Cardiac Vascular Review and Resource Manual (published/updated November 2010). See the “Review and Resource Manuals” on the ANCC website. Cost: $85.00, ANA member: $75.00.
- Team up with other nurses on your unit that are interested in becoming certified and start a study group.
- Take a CVN review course – either online or in person.
